In this first edition of The aQ Woman, we share the story of Madam Monica Odarley Lamptey, mother of aQweleywaabii’s creative director – Akweley. She is a 72-year-old woman who is a powerful reminder that faith, sacrifice, and purpose never fade.

At 72, Madam Monica stands as a picture of quiet strength. She once worked as a stenographer secretary and was building her career when the ministry of motherhood fully called her in. 

On choosing motherhood over a career:

“I gave up everything for my children. I had twins after three young ones and I knew they needed more than presence – they needed direction. My career could wait. My family could not.”

On sacrifice:

“My children are my legacy. They are the proof of the sacrifices I made quietly. If you want to see change in the world, you must be willing to make uncomfortable decisions. It won’t
be easy, but it will be worth it.”

On faith:

“God has always been my foundation. From day one. From the very beginning I raised my children in the same church so they would grow together in faith. Today, that decision of knowing Jesus Christ has been passed on to my
grandchildren, and I’m grateful for how far He has brought us.”

Advice to Her Younger Self

“I wish I had been more confident and assertive to say yes when I wanted to, and no when I needed to. Life has its turns, and motherhood teaches you to trust God with the outcomes. To my younger self and to every young woman, I say: be firm. Take every opportunity. Let faith lead. God always aligns things in His
time.”
